A little bit about us...

Matt has been involved in Volleyball since 1986 when he first started playing in a school indoor team at MacGregor State High School. After a few years of being “below average” he figured out the sport and started improving dramatically.

In 1991 Matt represented Queensland in U21’s Indoor Volleyball team and then onto to play in the QLD Pirates Open Indoor Volleyball team for many years.

When Matt wasn’t playing indoor volleyball, he found himself drawn to be out on the sand playing beach volleyball whenever he could.

He soon realised his passion was for beach volleyball.

Matt first represented Australia for Beach Volleyball in 1995 playing some Asian Tour events before playing on the Beach Volleyball World Tour from 1996 through to 2000.

Matt’s career highlight is representing Australia in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games with his partner Josh Slack.

After retiring from competing internationally, Matt started coaching professionally which he did for many years.

Matt and his family spent 5 years living in Bath, UK. He was appointed Head Coach of the Great Britain Beach Volleyball program in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

While still coaching (and playing) occasionally now, Matt is very fortunate to still be involved in the sport he is passionate about at Sandstorm every day.
